the SafeFlame

  Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SafeFlame?

The SafeFlame is a battery operated faux candle flame that can hold it's own under stage lighting without washing out as it's competitors units do.

What makes the SafeFlame flicker?

The new small circuit board holds all the timing and driving circuitry to make the SafeFlame flicker like a candle.

What are SafeFlame's power requirements?

SafeFlame was designed to run off of a half dead 9-Volt battery - Plenty of those lying around after a musical.

How long will it last for?

A half dead 9-Volt battery will last from between 4 and 8 hours, enough to do a show.  A new 9-Volt will last a lot longer.

Can I use a wall wart?

SafeFlame can be powered from any DC adaptor between 6 and 24 Volts..

How do I build it into a prop?

Both the flame and the battery can be mounted remotely from the circuit board by extending the wires.  It can either be mounted inside a hole drilled into a candle or embedded in wax to make a real candle.

Can I change the size of the flame?

Yes, the flame shape is made out of hot glue.  Just re-dip it to change it.

Can I wire an on/off switch to it?

Just wire it in line with one of the battery leads.

How do I make it flicker with wind?

Remove the link between the battery leads and connect  a normally closed switch across the terminals.

How long will the flame last?

The flame is made using LEDs which have a life of 10,000 hours or more.  It is far more likely to stop working due to being trodden on by an actor or crunched by a piece of scenery

How much does SafeFlame cost?

SafeFlame costs $34.95 each plus $5.00 shipping and handling.  Orders of 10 or more have a per unit cost of $32.45.  Orders of 100 or more have a per unit cost of $29.95.
